North Korea says it will resume propaganda broadcasts across border into South Korea

North Korea plans to resume anti-Seoul propaganda broadcasts along the heavily fortified border with South Korea, according to a statement from leader Kim Jong Un's sister, reviving a psychological warfare campaign that had been suspended.

The broadcasts, which typically feature criticism of the South Korean government and praise for the North's leadership, are part of a long history of loudspeaker warfare between the two countries dating back decades.

The announcement signals a further deterioration in inter-Korean relations, which have been strained by the North's continued weapons development and the South's deepening military cooperation with the United States.

South Korean officials have not yet announced how they will respond, though previous rounds of propaganda broadcasting have typically been met with counter-broadcasts from the South's own loudspeaker systems.
